SATURDAY MUSIC, (PALMERSTON NORTH) is affiliated to the Middle Districts Society for Music Education Inc) and is supported by the Primary School Out-of-Hours Music Scheme of the Ministry of Education. It is administered by a Supervisory Committee which operates under the direction of the Ministry of Education (Wanganui) and the Palmerston North Intermediate Normal School Board of Trustees.
COMMITTEE: Current members of the Supervisory Committee are; Christine Dykstra (Administrative Director), Rosanne Churchouse (Liaison-Assistant), Karen Carter (Chairperson), Mary Kriechbaum (Tutor representative), Catherine Duxfield (Treasurer), Jenny Orange (School representative), Mandy Houlahan (Parent representative), John Schwabe (Ministry of Education representative).
In order to achieve its aims, Saturday Music requires that the care-givers of all participating children pay a small annual subscription which assists in providing the services essential for the successful running of the classes. This augments the basic subsidy given by the Ministry of Education. We makes every effort to keep the annual subscription for each pupil as low as possible but must budget to meet all expenses and planned future growth. The subscription for 2007 is $85 per annum per class for any child where that child is the only one from a particular family who is enrolled. For two or more children from the same family, or for the child who is taking two or more classes, the subscription is $65 per child, per annum, per class.
A discount of $5 per pupil will be made to the annual subscription if the full subscription is paid before the 31st of March. This represents a charge of little more than $3 a lesson for any pupil. This is very inexpensive when compared to similar schemes in other cities or to the costs of private tuition.
