About Us

We provide affordable, accessible group music lessons for primary-aged children in the Manawatū region.

Established over 55 years ago, Saturday Music operates as a non-profit organisation. Keeping music education affordable, accessible and practical has always been its main goal.

We teach a variety of classes targeted at schoolchildren aged 4 to 13. We aim to:

  • Provide an opportunity for young children to explore and develop their creative musical potential
  • Build basic music skills
  • Provide opportunities for children to gain valuable experience in performing music
  • Maintain a supportive and affordable community music environment

Saturday Music's activities are managed by the Saturday Music Charitable Trust, a registered charity which is supported by the Ministry of Education's Primary Out-Of-Hours Music Scheme. This Trust provides support for the Saturday Music team in order to make the programme a success for all children and families.

Saturday Music is also supported by the Manawatū Music For Youth Trust (MMFYT). This Trust covers the cost of all non-teaching instrumental requirements, including the providing of instruments to hire out to students of Saturday Music. The MMFYT is responsible for providing financial support to cover the purchase of these instruments, as well as expenses arising from instrument maintenance and insurance costs. If you hire an instrument from us, you can thank these folks!

If you're interested in supporting Saturday Music by volunteering as a Trustee for either of these organisations, flick us an email! Every year, we also appoint a volunteer parent representative for the Saturday Music Charitable Trust board. If you're interested in applying for this position, please indicate your interest under the "Parent Details" section of the enrolment form.
